		<description>TESTIMONIALS

“We engaged Madalina to deliver an in depth Monitoring, Evaluation &#38;amp; Learning (MEL) study in 2023. Our organisation is not straightforward. We have three main strands of activity servicing two sectors in many countries. Madalina absorbed the intricacies of our organisation and developed an in-depth survey that went to over 400 stakeholders as well as being involved in over 15 in depth interviews. The study was brilliantly structured and has been a very important resource for our company, which we have used as a stepping stone to create a new strategy. She is a great communicator, analytical and reliable. I could not recommend her more highly.”
Nick Mathiason, founder and co-director, Finance Uncovered (United Kingdom)

“Madalina brings positive energy, clear perspective and insightful questions to both process design and project delivery. She added huge value both as a thinker and a do-er [during our collaboration with Finance Uncovered], helping to define context and shape the bigger picture then to back this up with in-depth understanding of detailed planning required to turn strategic ambition into action. Her structured approach on evaluation in particular really helped transition those important learnings into practical next steps.”Susie Billings, independent consultant (United Kingdom)
“I met Madalina while working on Project Oasis, a research initiative exploring the sustainability, innovation, and impact of independent digital-native media across Europe, where she led our team. My colleagues and I were truly impressed by her leadership skills and her extensive knowledge of both the media sector and project management. Madalina not only kept our team on track with our mission, tasks, budgets, and timelines but also created a safe, constructive, and trustworthy environment where we could thrive. She communicated clearly and directly, while genuinely listening to and following up on her team members' opinions and proposals. Her personal qualities are just as exceptional as her professional ones. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with her.”Lela Vujanic, CEE regional research manager for Project Oasis, Sembra Media (Croatia)

“Madalina conducted two webinars on community building for a group of local and investigative media outlets from nine EU member states as part of the Local Media for Democracy programme. Her workshops were dynamic and engaging, combining theory and case studies with group discussions and practical exercises. She thoroughly studied the profiles and needs of the participating media outlets and tailored her materials accordingly. The participants found the webinars very interesting, inspiring, and motivating. Madalina also developed a shareable knowledge product: a set of concepts, methods, case studies, and resources for better community understanding and planning community engagement activities for media outlets. She is highly professional and knowledgeable. Her deep understanding of, and enthusiasm for, audience engagement and community building were infectious. Working with Madalina as a consultant was a pleasure, and I hope to collaborate with her again in the future.”Iryna Vidanava, International Media Support/IMS (Denmark)
“Madalina helped us with the production of three toolkits for publishers. Working with Madalina was always a pleasant experience, as she was well-prepared, delivered on time and brought a thoughtful and can-do attitude to the work. She also presented the work in an engaging fashion at our annual forum event.”Joe Mitchell, Public Interest News Foundation (United Kingdom)
“Madalina was a dream to work with during Chalkbeat's end-of-year fundraising campaign, and she helped us surpass our previous year's total donations! She is proactive, thoughtful, collaborative and solutions-oriented — I hope we can work together again in the future.”
Kary Perez, Chalkbeat (United States)
“I’ve been consistently impressed with the depth and breadth of your knowledge on what’s happening in journalism. I’ve valued so much the resources, contacts, ideas and feedback you have provided to me. Thank you for always being so supportive and helpful in facilitating my involvement in EJC events.”&#38;nbsp;
Lucas Batt, the Bristol Cable (United Kingdom)

“I am grateful for all the support you've shown West Leeds Dispatch and the wider independent media sector over the past three years. You've always been supportive, encouraging and it's meant a lot to me. You've helped to drive the sector forward and encouraged us as a community news organisation to go in directions we might not normally have considered. You've made a real difference.”

John Baron, West Leeds Dispatch (United Kingdom)
“The events you organised (as part of the Engaged Journalism Accelerator) have been a model for me and I will try to replicate in my future work some of the good practices you introduced.”
 Pierre Leibovici, Mediacités (France)

“It's been such a pleasure getting to know you and thank you for making our participation in the Engaged Journalism Accelerator such an amazing experience. We're grateful for the advice and support you’ve given us.”&#38;nbsp;
Iliana Papangeli, Solomon (Greece)

“You have really been an important connector for European journalism and have helped build a foundation for European collaboration. You did it with so much energy, positivity and dedication, which made it very valuable to work in a cross-border way. I think this helped to encourage many to work more with their communities and colleagues in different countries.”
Ties Gijzel, Are We Europe/ Argos (The Netherlands)

“It has been a privilege to work with you all this time, especially when I landed at Maldita.es and there was so much to do and so much to learn about communities and membership. Thank you so much for all the support you have given us (long before I was here).”
 Bea Lara, Maldita.es (Spain)

		<description>PRODUCT AND STRATEGY
Project Oasis - a research study on the sustainability of independent digital native media in EuropeSembraMedia, April 2023Project Oasis is a year-long research project on the sustainability, innovation, and impact of independent digital native news organisations in more than 40 countries across Europe. Its goal is to bring greater visibility to digital native media organisations, and to uncover new insights about the trends, opportunities, and challenges in this growing market sector. An interactive directory of 540 media organisations can be explored, and a narrative report and individual&#38;nbsp;country summaries provide additional context and in-depth information about the media landscape of the countries studied.&#38;nbsp;

Building the Engaged Journalism in Europe Database
Engaged Journalism Accelerator, August 2018. Last updated in January 2021.
In 2018, I developed a public database of European news organisations practising community-driven journalism. The database, which initially had 70 news organisations, has grown to feature 189 news organisations in 35 countries in Europe. The database has been used in academic curriculums in journalism programmes, it has been cited and has inspired academic research into engaged journalism, and has been used as an event resource for finding relevant news organisations and speakers.Coordinating the Accelerator Ambassador Network, a knowledge-sharing initiative for engaged journalism practitioners in Europe Engaged Journalism Accelerator, April 2019I designed and coordinated a professional development programme called the Accelerator Ambassador Network. This experimental initiative facilitated knowledge-sharing, professional development and provided financial support for six engaged journalism practitioners in six countries (UK, Sweden, Poland, The Netherlands, France and Italy) to experiment with community-driven approaches in their newsrooms.
Producing the Engagement Explained newsletter Engaged Journalism Accelerator, October 2018 - January 2021
A bi-monthly (and subsequently monthly) newsletter developed and published with my programme team. Examples here, here and here.&#38;nbsp;

WORKSHOPS AND TRAININGI have designed and delivered more than a dozen events, workshops and roundtables all over Europe, both in-person and online, ranging from 15 to 200 participants. This includes programme development, budget management, stakeholder management and logistics, and co-creation of sessions with external facilitators and speakers. As part of this, I have managed budgets of more than €100,000 and my events have consistenly received positive feedback and an average of 4.5/5 CSAT score.
You can find out more about the themes of these events&#38;nbsp;here, here and here.&#38;nbsp;REPORT WRITING / EDITINGHow funding journalism in a crisis has impacted journalists and their communities

		<description>Hi, I’m Madalina&#38;nbsp;👋🏻
I help mission-driven news organisations, foundations and NGOs articulate and serve the needs of their communities.&#38;nbsp;I am available for consulting and contract work, remotely or in person in London – here’s what I can do for you, here’s a list of organisations I’ve collaborated with, and here’s more information about my skills.&#38;nbsp;
Recently I was the director for Project Oasis 🏝 at SembraMedia, where I led a team of five people and three contractors. Project Oasis is a searchable, interactive directory and research study analysing the sustainability of independent digital native media organisations in Europe.

I have a decade of experience across programme design and project management, partnerships, community engagement and product. I have launched grant funds💰, developed databases and&#38;nbsp;products, designed knowledge-sharing initiatives for engaged journalism practitioners🧠, set up mentoring schemes 👥, written and edited accountability and learning reports📋, produced case studies and podcasts💻, and organised dozens of workshops and training events for journalists🗣. You can find more examples of my work here.
&#60;img width="189" height="113" width_o="189" height_o="113" src_o="https://cortex.persona.co/t/original/i/4a66187c2dfc12e6342c7bc46004f58042a96e1ff93fbcac00cc0f39ea898929/WORK-2.png" data-mid="1125180" border="0" /&#62;
“Madalina absolutely shines and adds value with her organisational aptitude and her sharp mind, but especially with her rapport building: she has always inspired me through how she actively listens to people (be it colleagues, stakeholders or high-level partners/ funders), gives clear, consistent advice and direction, and is able to bring the best out in people.”Kathryn Geels, former manager at the European Journalism Centre&#38;nbsp;

“Madalina was a dream to work with during Chalkbeat's end-of-year fundraising campaign, and she helped us surpass our previous year's total donations! She is proactive, thoughtful, collaborative and solutions-oriented — I hope we can work together again in the future.”
Kary Perez, Chalkbeat

My strengths are empathy, listening, attention to detail and strategic thinking. I am inspired by collaboration, human-centered design and systems thinking. I love working with people and bringing them together to learn from each other – find out what people have to say about working with me. &#38;nbsp;
